Anyway, it's our next tour to visit the nation's cherished Grand Palace. Here, we explore the nation's landmark and most praised royal monument. Within the 61 acre complex we'll find delights like the Reception Palace, The Throne Hall and, what is undoubtedly one of the wonders of the world, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Keow). This exquisite temple contains one of the most holy and revered of religious objects in Thailand - an image of Buddha carved from a single piece of jade...

| | On Sunday morning, we went to the famous Chatuchak market. It's known as the world's biggest weekend market. The market only open on weekend. The published opening hours for the market are from 9.00am to 6.00pm on Saturday and Sunday, though many of the stalls actually open sometime between 9.00am and 10.00am and close around sunset. It is also open on Friday as a market for wholesalers, but there is no problem doing normal shopping on this day either (same opening times).
This market is unbelievably very huge place. One day spent here will never be enough.. Chatuchak is practically selling almost EVERYTHING under the sun. all sorts of Thai handicrafts, household accessories, religious artifacts, art, antiques, live animals (which unfortunately are frequently caged in cruel conditions), books, music, clothes, food, plants and flowers ..You name it..
Bargaining is expected, if not mandatory, at Chatuchak and the prices are generally substantially cheaper than the shopping centers and street stalls on Silom and Sukhumvit. Many shops in the more centrals areas of the city also have a branch here, selling the same goods for much lower prices.
Chatuchak always gets VERY HOT and humid during the day, and it's far from the most comfortable shopping experience but for most people the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. Going early in the day when it is a bit cooler is recommended.

| | On Saturday morning, we joined a tour and went to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. It's a large and popular floating market in Thailand, about 80 km southwest of Bangkok in Ratchaburi province. It took around 2 hours from our hotel to reach this place. We arrived at 10 am, not the best time actually coz the market is already too much crowded by tourists.
We paid another 2,000 Baht for three persons to join the ride on a boat trip. Quite expensive, huh.. The Floating Market is routinely crowded with hundreds of vendors and purchasers floating in their small rowing boats selling and buying agricultural products and local food, which are mostly brought from their own nearby orchards. Therefore, it is a very attractive place for tourists to see this old style and traditional way of selling and buying goods.
Along the waterway, we can see traditional teak Thai houses and the local life. We saw many dogs here.. looks like people here love to have dogs as their pet. nice :-). |
| | We sure do LOVE to EAT.. Bon appetite..! |
| | It was Songkran Day in Bangkok.. a traditional Thai new year. It starts April 13 and lasts between 3 and 10 days, depending on where you are in Thailand. When we first arrived in Bangkok, we've no idea what Songkran Festival is all about.. but as soon as we walked to our first destination, Central World Plaza, we found what Songkran means..Water Festival. The Thai people celebrate this festival with water. People always throw water on everybody who walks past their houses or walks down the street with cups or buckets of water, squirt guns, hoses and anything else. Everyone gets wet, but it is all in a spirit of friendliness, blessing and fun. People who get wet actually do not get angry because they know that it is traditional. Like you can see on the pics...there was even 'water battle' happening at Central World...
"Basah basah basah tubuh ku ini.. ach.. ach.. ach.. mandi madu.."
